These fans have had the pleasure of meeting Stefanie. Several have written
about their encounter with Stefanie and you can read those stories by scrolling down.
Just got back from seeing “King and I”
and it was awesome, fabulous, wonderful, but yet different than the old movie version which I have. Some of the scenes
you really have to crack-up over even after you get home and have (if you’re lucky) slept maybe 2 ½ hours before getting
up and starting the day. I must say though that seeing the play with (Stefanie) once is not enough, if you can I highly
recommend seeing it as often as possible.
My wonderful day started fairly normal dragging myself out of bed around
10am (after working till 1am the night before and driving another hour to sleep by 2am that same morning). Then once I was
clean, dressed, and had eaten brunch I was on the road driving 4 hours (229.56 miles) one way to see Stefanie in my first
play ever. The moment she walked out on stage my fatigue in driving so far was gone.
At intermission the fatigue slowly
crept in again so I stretched out and catnapped maybe 3 minutes before everyone took their seats again for the play to continue.
When the play ended I made my way to where I was told to wait for my chance to meet Stefanie in person. I was still standing
and waiting as the last of the audience was leaving then was told that I must not have been on the list to meet her and was
being politely asked to leave so they could lock the doors.
I was scared but kept insisting that I was supposed to
be able to go backstage to meet Stefanie. Luckily the right person overheard our discussion and using his cell phone called
someone backstage to verify what I was claiming. (I was so scared by this time that I was shaking in my shoes thinking that
I wouldn’t get meet Stefanie after all).
Turned out Stefanie had given her assistant the night off but found
that my name was on the list to get to meet Stefanie so he escorted me backstage where we met up with someone. I don’t
remember who she was but she stood with me until Stefanie came out of her dressing room. I was still so scared and shaky that
when I first saw Stefanie (without make-up and her hair pulled back). I didn’t recognize her so I continued
standing there twisting my hands around this little package I had for her.
She looked at me a couple of times before
being told I was there to see her, then she walked over to me and asked where I was from. Very quietly (my shyness taking
over due to fear) replied Aumsville OR. She then asked me again, so I again but a little louder replied Aumsville OR. Then
she took me into the hallway to a map of Washington and asked me to show her where I was from. Of course I couldn’t
on that map and told her so then let her know how many hours it took to drive there. Then she asked for my name, I thought
she would recognize the name with the quilt I had made her (and temporarily brain dead) replied Anne and left it at that so
she then asked Anne what? So I said Barker.
Seeing then that she either hadn’t been told or didn't remember the
name on the quilt, I said, “You don’t remember do you?” She let me know that she meets
so many people that it’s hard to remember everyone. Then I leaned down (thankful that I had brought the button I’d
had made up from a pic of the quilt) to unpin the button from my pant leg and said I’m the one who made you this.
(I’m afraid I scared Stefanie with my movements.)
Then she went on to tell me that the quilt was at her home
in England on a table and that her chairs in that room where green. After she opened the package to find an angel bookmark
I made she then asked me how/what I used to make it. I started to list the items used and stepped closer to touch the head
but before I could go on she turned and hugged me and thanked me for coming so far to see her. I of course hugged her back
before going back into the room where she showed off the bookmark and the picture of the quilt.
While she was talking to the others I spotted
her dog Bounce and coaxed him over and petted him for a few moments. Then we did the photos with Bounce between us. (Hesitantly
I placed my arm around Stefanie’s waist for the pictures). Thinking it was all over when Bounce was done sniffing at
my shoes, I started gathering my coat and camera to leave but Stef must have seen me and told me “don’t go yet.”
So putting my coat back on the doorknob I waited by petting Bounce and looking around me noticing then a large map of the
US on the wall further down than where we had stopped earlier. So before leaving I took her out and showed her where
I was from, when she found out that I was driving back that same night she asked me several times if I was going to be ok
going that far alone. I let her know that I would be ok and that I’d be stopping somewhere along the way for a bite
since I hadn’t eaten anything since 11:00am that morning and here it was 11:pm already.
Needless to say I forgot to get her autograph on the
program and playbill.
I hardly know what to think about my opportunity to meet Stefanie. It still seems like a dream
and I have to keep looking at the picture of myself with her to believe it was true.
This opportunity arrived at a time in my life when I needed a pick-me-up. I'd told my husband that I wanted a divorce two
weeks before and I desperately needed just to be away from him for even a short period of time. I asked a close girlfriend
of mine to join me, not wanting to be wandering NYC alone, and I figured that the Vagina Monologues would offer the right
amount of comic relief and feminine bonding.
I'd joined the fan club immediately when I found out that Stefanie would be in NYC, because of all the wonderful things
that the Stefanie Group had said about meeting her; and that being a member of the fan club would provide the opportunity
to meet her.
I'd been a fan for decades and just the thought of seeing her in person seemed to be unreal. Through the group I found
out that Lynn R. and Betty L. would be attending the same performance (Feb 23, 2002) and we met beforehand for dinner. It
was wonderful sitting with people who just let you revel in your obsession because they have the same obsession. Made me feel
like a teenager.
We had front row seats, which are wonderful for the feeling of proximity, but a major detractor when your stature is more
than, say, 5'3". Sitting rigidly upright just wasn't enough to keep my knees from pressing into the stage. Oh well.
The play was amazingly funny, moving and a god-send to someone who is currently reentering her life as an independent woman.
Stefanie came out after the show and met with us for a few minutes, allowing us to take pictures with her. She recognized
both Betty and Lynn from previous meetings and was very friendly even asking about Lynn's mother whom she had met at Fansource
in October. I gave her a bottle of wine from my family's winery and she talked to me for a few minutes about growing grapes
and making wine and then she let me give her some information about some endangered horses on a small island in the Bahamas.
I want to apologize to Lynn and Betty for dominating the time with Stefanie, my only excuse is that I was on automatic
pilot and trying to get in all the information I had promised others I would try to relay. Next time Ill just sit back and
enjoy the ride more. She was very generous, kind and friendly and she hugged us all goodbye and I still feel like it was a
dream.
Thanks to a news release forwarded (by NancyD) to the online Stefanie Powers Group, MichelleY, LeslieT, VickiD and I were
able to attend a luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington DC to hear Stefanie deliver a speech concerning the Bush
Meat Crisis.
On Monday, May 21, Michelle and I took the train in to Washington, DC, to the Press Club luncheon.
We met Vicki and Leslie in front of the elevators on the 13th floor and went in. The speech was interesting and informative.
She explained about logging which makes it easier for hunters to kill animals in large groups and carry them away in vehicles
instead of on their backs, because the logging cleared the roads. What was interesting is how AIDS has taken a toll on the
country of Africa. I was really impressed with the way she answered everyone's questions. Shes VERY knowledgeable and passionate
about this subject.
Stefanie seemed to really appreciate that we (fans) were there and she was shocked that we traveled
to see her. We weren't sure about approaching her, but Vic went up to her with a picture and she broke the ice. What was really
nice was the way she took us to the side while all these other people were trying to talk to her. While I was waiting for
her to take the photo with me some people started talking to her again she told them she had to finish with us first. She
was so nice to all of us and she looked really gorgeous.
I had planned
my first trip to the United States specially to see the actress of whom I have been a fan since I was a teenager, when the
Brazilian network TV Globo first aired the series "Hart to Hart". I fell in love with all that magic and glamour, the
romance and adventure, and with the possibility of experiencing a world so distant to me. Well, it took me 24 years to meet
Stefanie Powers in person. It was not in vain. She is exactly how I imagined her to be...
My husband and I were sitting waiting
in an area backstage, when we heard her voice calling out to her personal assistant, Stephen Moritz, asking him our names
and where we came from. Minutes before, right after the show "The King and I", he had met us at the spectacle room and taken
us on a small trip into the backstage. "These are the dresses she wears in the play. Do you know that this one weights about
20 pounds? Try to lift it!" he urged us. The dress was really heavy and we were both wondering how she could act and look
so light and fresh on stage having clothes like that.
Stephen came back from Stefanie’s
dressing room and said she would be with us in a while. She had just had a shower. Suddenly, Stefanie Powers entered the room,
with her little black dog, Bounce, by the collar. We stood up. I have to confess that I felt a wave of heat all over hitting
my face. I did not want to play the desperate fan and invade her privacy because, first of all, she deserves all the respect
from those who admire her and her work. "It is such a pleasure meeting you", I said, trying my best to look calm, while shaking
hands with her.
A BREAK FOR AN AUTOGRAPH – "So,
you came from Brazil!" she exclaimed. "I’m from Rio and my husband is from Sweden, but we live in Brasília. We came
specially for your show," I answered. We sat down and she took an armchair placed on my left side. On that moment, we were
interrupted by someone from the theater, who announced that there was a girl outside, with her mother, asking for an autograph.
"Let her in", said Stefanie.
Erika was her name, the blond, beautiful
girl of approximately twelve years of age, wearing a nice black dress and a pair of elegant sandals. "I see that you have
dressed up for the show. It is really nice of you; you should dress up for the theatre. I’m happy that you came", said
Stefanie. Immediately, I realised that Erika and her mother had been sitting beside us during the show, in the sixth row,
both of them elegantly dressed and paying attention to every detail of the musical. In my mind, I quickly went back in time,
seeing myself in that young lady. I was 13 when I became Stefanie’s fan. It is true that she reaches people of many
different generations. She is one of those personalities that will always be remembered throughout the years.
Erika’s mother told Stefanie that
she was a big fan of "Hart to Hart" and that she had seen all the TV series episodes. Then, I took the opportunity to show
my fan side as well: "I’ve been your fan since I was a teenager". Stefanie leaned backwards in an almost dramatic way
and broke out into an "oh, please", as if she didn’t want to talk about age. I clarified the situation by saying: "Please,
accept it as a complement, because that is what it really is".
"Casalo 20", she then said, mentioning
the title of the TV series "Hart to Hart" in Brazil. "Casal 20", I corrected her. "Eu não falo português", she continue."
But, of course, you speak some Spanish, don’t you?" I asked. And she switched Spanish, showing her ability for languages.
"Si, hablo Español, pero no comprendo Portugues (I speak Spanish, but don’t understand Portuguese). I think Italian
is closer to Portuguese", she said, making a connection with another Latin language.
When Erika and her mother had left, Stefanie
told us that the cast of "The King and I" and she had been to Savanna (in Georgia) before going to Myrtle Beach, a place we
could visit, she suggested, because of its historical places. We said that we love to travel, and she seemed really impressed
by the fact that we had traveled all the way from Brazil to see her play. And so, I asked her if she had ever planned on visiting
my country. "I’ve been to Brazil twice. It was in the 60´s and in the 80´s. I don’t remember really well, but
I visited Belém, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, to play polo, and Caxambu (city located in the state of Minas Gerais, on the border
with Rio de Janeiro, known for its therapeutic springs)".
MACHINE GUN FIRE - "Caxambu?!", I asked.
It seemed strange to us that she would have been to such a small place. "I was invited by Neville de Almeida and Júlio Bressane
(two Brazilian film directors)", she explained. "My then husband and I stayed in Julio’s house. One night, we were already
in bed when I hear this terrible noise ‘ra-ta-ta-ta!’. I am terrified and think that the sound must be coming
from a machine gun (Brazil was already considered a violent place to live and further, this took place during the military
dictatorship years). Then, again: 'ra-ta-ta-ta-ta!'. So, I go crawling on my knees to Julio’s bedroom and I knock on
his door: "Júlio, what is happening? What is that noise? He just comforted me saying: "Oh, it is just the "Semana Santa" (The
Holy Week). Don’t you worry about it".
"Ah, Fireworks!", I concluded, smiling
at Stefanie. "Yes, we Brazilians love to celebrate whenever there is a possibility".
After this episode, we talked a bit about
projects related to environmental issues in Brazil and about the Indians in the country (my husband’s work is related
to this subject). There are more than 220 different Indigenous Peoples in Brazil, and they speak roughly 180 distinct languages.
I was curious to know if she had projects for Brazil and she responded that everything depended on funding, but that she would
like to have jaguar preservation projects in the Pantanal and in the Amazon.
Stefanie suddenly had a quick look at
her watch, and delicately mentioned the hour. She had not realised how late it was, almost 11PM. I was so concerned with not
disturbing her, that I quickly jumped to my feet and involuntarily gave little Bounce a good scare, making him tremble with
fear for a split second. "She has another four presentations in the next two days here in Myrtle, and we’ve been touring
as you know", explained Stephen Moritz gently.
I asked her if she would give me an autograph.
Or, more precisely, four of them: one for me, one for Wanderléa, who has already visited the William Holden Wildlife Foundation;
one for Cida, who wrote a letter to Stefanie in the name of the Brazilian Fan Group, and the last one for the Brazilian Fan
Group. I felt really embarrassed of asking for so much but, as you all know, a chance like this doesn’t happen everyday,
so I asked her if she would sign the front page on four programme folders from the show.
THE LADY - What a charming, elegant woman!
She wore no make up, but black crayon around her eyes. She was dressed in black pants, a white shirt with stripes, high heels,
a big black watch and a necklace, probably, from Africa. Her smooth voice makes you pay attention to her and her clear pronunciation
denounces her commitment to the stage. Yes, she is a great actress. Her pale complexion and honey-coloured eyes make a beautiful
image that matches perfectly well with her reddish hair.
Stefanie Powers is casual and classic
at the same time, polite and naturally receptive without allowing too much intimacy. She is a lady, one of those you don’t
see frequently in our days. Sweet and firm, she preserves the same freshness of the "Hart to Hart" years, when she played
Jennifer.
"So, how do I write ‘for’
in Portuguese, is it ‘de’?" she asked. "No, it’s ‘para’, I answered. "You are
...". "Cláudia, I said. C-L-A-U-D-I-E", leading her into a mistake. "Oh, sorry. ‘A’ instead of ‘E’".
She mended the error. "Besos" (kisses), she then wrote. "In Portuguese, it’s ‘beijos’", I
corrected her again and she mended the second error. I spelled out all the names and Stefanie autographed the programmes,
one by one. Finally, I gave her a pair of Brazilian flip flops decorated with jaguars and a T-shirt from Rio de Janeiro.
She didn’t open the gift, but promised to use both. I also gave her the letter from the Brazilian Fan Group.
And then, when our meeting seemed to be
finished, she looked at the four autographs again and said: "No, no, no. Your copy isn’t OK. I’ll make you another
one", referring to the mended words. I said that there was no need for that, and that I was already extremely happy for have
had the chance of meeting her". But she insisted: "have you got another programme, Stephen?"
This gesture made me even happier and
confirmed the idea I had of her: she is someone who really cares for her audience, for people. While she was looking for a
new copy for me, I asked her if we could have a picture together. She came back with a new programme and another dedication
to me, now, without mending. "Yes, you can", she said. I had one single click with her (in order not to take more of her time),
by the famous heavy dress she wore on stage.
Stefanie said she would really had gone
with us for a drink if she hadn’t been so tired and gave us a sheet of paper with a suggestion of a jazz place to where
she had been invited (the following night, my husband and I visited "The Jasmine Supper Club", a cosy place with delightful
live music).
And then, as Stefanie found out that we
had arrived at the theatre in a taxi, she offered us a ride back to our hotel. I could not believe my ears, neither that she
could be this nice and polite. Both wanting and not wanting to accept her generous offer, the matter was then suddenly resolved
as Mr. Monte Riggins, the head carpenter of the Palace Theatre, insisted on dropping us at the hotel. We gladly accepted.
"Stefanie, the car is ready", Stephen
said. Handshakes and goodbye kisses all around, and then they left. My husband and I literally closed the theatre with Riggins,
before he took us back to the hotel.
I was lucky enough to meet Stefanie for the first time on February 9, 1991, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when she and Robert
Wagner performed in LOVE LETTERS
The performance that night was a first for me and I had a wonderful time. After
the show was over, Iwent backstage to see Stefanie and after a few minutes of waiting, Stefanie herself came to get me. We
both went into her dressing room together. She seemed so glad to see me that it felt as though we'd known each other for a
long time and I, too, was glad to meet her that evening. She really made me feel at home and I could tell that her fans mean
a lot to her.
Whenever I look at the pictures we had taken together, it seems like yesterday that we were side by
side smiling for the camera. She's truly a beautiful person inside and out.
I am Diana. I am French. I am Fan since 6 years old.
At this age I have told my parents, I want to be Jennifer Hart when I am grown up! I have had the chance to meet Stefanie
when I was 13, It was on Heathrow airport. I was in transit from Greece to Canada, I was alone -my parents were working- and
I have been entrusted to a hostess's care. She had learned that Stefanie was on the airport, in VIP lounge, and we went to
meet her. The hostess ask me to promise to be well-behaved; I will promise anything to see Stefanie! When I met Stefanie,
I have been impressed by her french, and she has been VERY KIND AND ADORABLE. I hope to see her again and I will have a camera
to take a photo. UPDATE: Diana had a chance to get that photo with Stefanie in May, 2002, in Edinbugh, Scotland, during
the run of KING AND I.
I must tell you all about my fantastic weekend in
Clearwater, Florida! I arrived Friday, January 7 at my hotel which was a lovely historic spa hotel located
directly on Tampa Bay. As I was checking in, I noticed some small children who looked vaguely familiar to those in the
King and I I saw last week in Fort Myers... hmmm....
I drove over to the theater where King and I was playing
to make sure I knew where I was going that evening. I was kind of stopped in the middle of the road blocking the lane,
when all the sudden, I saw a large Cadillac behind me, trying to get around me... obviously irritated with my driving... and
yes, low and behold, I look over and it's Stefanie! Great first impression, yes? lol... Evidently she was arriving for
the matinee.
Later, I arrived for the Friday evening show &
it was really great! I was in the 3rd row center & I have never seen Stefanie in person... and I must say she really
was stunning in all ways. The play was a wonderful production and highlights for me were Stefanie singing the "Young
Lovers" song, the scene with the children/"Getting to Know You" and the hilarious "You're Spoiled" scene.
I was also fortunate to see the Saturday matinee
show and then finally, the Saturday evening show too. I enjoyed all of them but was starting to wonder if I should apply
for an understudy part after so much repetition!
Prior to the Saturday evening show, I met up with
Derek, Renee & Zee for cocktails & great conversation. After the show, we were still unsure if we were going
to be able to see Stefanie backstage, but after a brief wait by the backstage door, we were told by Stefanie's personal assistant
(he said Stef calls him her Roadie) we were indeed "on the list" and were ushered backstage.
Stefanie was so gracious & very friendly.
As she shook my hand, she held on to it as asked if we had met before... I said no, I think I'd remember that.. lol... (and
then it occurred to me she could have been thinking of the incident in the parking lot!)
She was wearing a black 3/4 sleeve t-shirt & a
pair of snakeskin look pants. We took photos, she signed autographs, she asked us questions about ourselves & spoke
about her prior meetings with Derek & Renee, made some mention about an upcoming project in the UK, the mini benefit in
Baltimore, real estate in Florida (my profession), gave us all hugs & kisses and thanked us all for coming. I know
I'm missing a lot about our visit but I was so nervous!
However, this was not the end of my encounter with
Stefanie! We left the theater after our meeting & I drove back to my hotel. As I pulled in, I noticed a Cadillac
pull into the valet next to me. I got out of my car, and yes, Stefanie got out of hers right next to me! We looked
at each other & I said... "What? Are you following me??" To which she burst into laughter and asked
if I was staying at the hotel & I said yes. We spoke about the hotel briefly and I noticed she was staring at my
car and started walking around it a bit (It's a new black Mazda RX8) and she started marvelling about how adorable it was
& how much she loved it. I told her a bit about it & we chatted for another minute or so. As she turned
to go, she turned back to me and said that there was one thing I MUST do before I leave the hotel... I needed to call to the
spa desk first thing in the morning & arrange for a massage with Tomas! I said, oh REALLY? and she sighed
as she turned to leave and said REALLY.... we laughed & said good night.
But yet again... the following morning, Sunday,
I was going out to breakfast around 10, went to get into my car and as I opened the door & start to get in, Stefanie appears
right in front of my car on the sidewalk walking her cute little black Maltese. She said Hi Diane! and waived. FYI,
she was wearing a white polo turtleneck (ala Hart to Hart) and black slacks. She looked as beautiful as I've ever seen.
I got out of the car and said good morning, she asked if I slept well & she said they were leaving for Detroit in just
a few minutes. I pet her dog and he was a real sweetheart too. We spoke a bit about the beautiful area surrounding
the hotel & she said how much nicer it was than the concrete developments like a lot of Florida these days. I told
her I couldn't agree more. I told her about this massive Oak tree nearby and she was going to take a look before leaving
town. We spoke for another minute or two but then said goodbye.
I couldn't have asked for a better
weekend. Thank you so much Nancy for making the backstage meeting happen. I am eternally grateful.
My husband and I were fortunate enough to have front
row center seats for KING AND I! I have never seen a show from that close, and the perspective was awesome. I
was able to catch every little nuance of her performance. What a joy. I'm sure I had a silly smile on my face the whole
time. The audience burst into applause as soon as she hit the stage in the first scene, and I made sure I was the first
one on my feet for her at the end. She was truly captivating. It's difficult to explain, but she just has a way about
her. Everything she does is clearly deliberate but somehow completely natural. She has a quiet power to her presence
on stage. She is so utterly unique and yet classic. From her singing voice....to her body carriage ... to her mastery of the
accent...to her facial expressions which say so much, even when she is silent....to her ability to so tenderly evoke tears
at those poignant moments ... and her rendition of "Shall I Tell You What I Think of You" was worth the price of admission
alone! Brilliant.
She is equally as captivating as "herself". Quite at the last minute, we were able to
hook up with someone who agreed to inquire as to her availability. We really did not expect her to be able to receive
us, as it was opening night, and we were prepared for her to have press obligations and whatnot. Well, Bhudda smiled
upon us (ha, ha), and after we made doubly sure we were not intruding upon her in any way, we gladly accepted a welcome to
her backstage area, a large dressing room commons.
I really thought I would be more nervous than I was, but having
never met a celebrity or one of my idols, if you will, I just did not know what to expect. Perhaps I was in just a bit
of shock that after all these months of anticipation, this was actually happening. My husband teased me, "Don't go getting
goofy now!" I said, "Oh, you can bet I will!" We laughed, and that sort of broke the tension. Before
I knew it, I heard HER unmistakable, delightful, hearty laugh coming from her dressing room, as she bantered with a departing
costar. Then we saw an arm waving us in and heard her shout, "C'mon back!"
... and there she was. "Hiiii!"
in that bright, lilting voice.
"These people are from Nancy's group," said her assistant.
"Oh, hello."
"Hi,
I'm Donna," I said, offering my hand to her.
"Oh, I just put on a bunch of lotion."
Whoops. She was clearly
in a hurry, trying to get herself together and dressed. She continued to rub in her lotion and then put on her jewelry
and her jacket and pack her bag, all the while chatting to the two young female veterinarians already in her dressing room
about her little dog, to whom she referred as "one of God's more wonderful people." It seems the pup had made a visit
to the doggie E.R. the day before and had been treated by one of the ladies, who brought along a colleague to see the show.
Don't worry. Bounce clearly had all his bounce back. They think he just had a tainted meal or something.
He was so cute in his little sweater, and his mum obviously adores him.
She was quite involved in talking about
the dog, and before we knew it, Stefanie said, "Let's get outta here and go get some dinner." She seemed tired and was
obviously hungry, and I felt bad for hanging her up at all, so at that cue, we left the room and headed for our coats. Her
assistant called after us, "Would you like your program signed?" I politely declined, heading back toward the room and
said, "Actually, I really just wanted to leave this for her." Having not expected the meeting to take place, I had come
prepared with a donation, a letter, and a small gift of jewelry from the fundraiser I did for the birthday donation way back
in October. Well, when I reached the doorway, she met me, exclaiming, "Oh, how sweet! Isn't that nice?"
Just
like that, she shifted gears and came right out to us and began talking with us in earnest, thanking us for our involvement
with the foundation. She asked if she might open the gift right away, and I was a bit embarrassed but acquiesced. Once
she opened it, I was able to explain to her about the fundraiser, and she seemed very pleased. She said something to
the effect of, "...businesses are beginning to discover that conservation is very profitable!"
We told her our children
wanted to be there but are very little. She inquired of their ages and said our five-year-old should come. We
explained to her about his various sensitivities, particularly to spiritual matters and death and his precocious capacity
for great empathy, and she showed genuine interest, which, as a mother, I ate right up. My children had made her
some "valentines"/colorings, which I had enclosed with my letter, which made her laugh and smile. "That's great!" As
you can imagine, all of this was very satisfying.
When she saw our donation check, she thanked us again and reached
out to offer me a hug, which I gladly accepted, and then she proceeded to hug my hubbie, as well. He then asked her
if he might take our picture. Thank goodness, because at that point, I was rather in a daze. She happily agreed
and afterward asked her assistant to take a picture of the three of us together. I will treasure those pictures, although,
I dislike the images of myself, as I knew I would. I mean, how is one to measure up next to that beauty?!
Seriously,
she truly is radiant. Again, this is something you have to experience for yourself, but she is just one of these people
that exudes health and vitality. So strong, vibrant, and purely feminine ... and those period costumes belie her figure
completely. Her dedication to personal fitness is evident.
I am so thankful to have had a chance to meet this
amazing woman ... this true lady. Thanks to Nancy for helping to make this dream come true for so many of us, the
meeting of this most inspiring of women. Thanks to Ms. P. for her warmth and kindness, and for giving of her precious
time to do those little things that make we fans feel so important and so loved. We should all be so good to one another.
I flew from Amsterdam to Houston on march 25th, to
attend the evening show on of KING AN I on march 26th. Nancy had told me another member of the group (Teresa A) would be attending
the show that night as well, and she figured it would be nice for me to meet another group member. It definately was nice,
I would have done it on my own, but I am sure it would not have been quite the same. Teresa arrived late afternoon of march
26th , we stayed at the same hotel, and it was a good thing she phoned my room to tell me she had arrived, cause I was fast
asleep then (lovely thing,jet-lag) and would not have woken up by myself, and would have surely missed the show!
We enjoyed a lovely dinner, and after dinner made our
way to the theatre. The show was simply amazing : I loved the costumes, the kids, the singing, and the fun stuff that was
in there. And of course seeing Stefanie perform on stage (my first time ever) was amazing. Boy, can she sing (as could the
others, fair is fair).
After the show we went to the stagedoor, where we were
waiting for Stephen(Stefanie's assistant) to meet us. At that time my nerves were getting the better of me, and also the jet-lag
wasn't helping much. I kept thinking about other groupmembers comments how not to have to be nervous : my stomach did not
agree with them there!
Stephen came and collected us, we had to wait outside
the dressingroom a little while, so he started asking where we were from. When he found I was from Amsterdam, that quickly
broke the ice, cause he had been to Amsterdam many times, and loved the city.
We then went in (I came in last), and before I stepped
into the room, I could hear Stephen tell Stefanie there was someone there from Amsterdam: I heard Stefanie say : No, really????
I was then face to face with her, not believing I was
actually right there in front of her. She looked at me and asked me if we had met before. Well, obviously we had not. I could
not believe how nice she was. She asked if we had ever been backstage in a theatre, well, we had not, so she took us with
her, to show us around. She found that all the doors were locked, and she was sorry for us, she would have loved to show us.
We then went back to the dressingroom, she had us lift one of her dresses (extremely heavy), and we gave her our gifts, which
she was very happy with. Then came 'picture-time', and because I had been petting Bounce (I fell in love with her instantly),
and did what came naturally-I spoke Dutch to Bounce, because of that (and the jet-lag) I started speaking Dutch to Stefanie
and Teresa! When it was my turn to have my picture taken with Stefanie, she insisted Bounce would be in it. Before the pictures
got taken, she fixed my hair (it was standing up from all the excitement), and told me she could really relate, she knew what
it was like having to speak and think a language all day which is not your mother tongue. She was absolutely gracious, and
I could just not believe that she would go out of her way to do all of what she did for her fans.
She then told us to stay, cause it was Stephen's birthday
(his parents were there), and she had a gift for him. After giving that, we would all leave together. So there I was, wishing
Stephen a happy b-day, and actually giving him a small Dutch gift (magnet) which he loved.
We then left, and again Stefanie went out of her way
to show us where to go to walk back to our hotel. Wow, what a lady!! And she looked so tremendously good (and fit).
The
next time I saw Stefanie was on monday night, at the book-signing. I got a little seperated from Teresa, but not a problem.
I stood in line, again totally in awe of how good Stefanie looked, and enjoying her speach (I love the sound of her voice).
When it was my turn to have my book signed, she looked at me and said : Hi Dorine, how is the jet-lag? I could not believe
she remembered my name! She then told the rest of the crowd still waiting in line, that I came all the way from Amsterdam.
She signed my book, told me she knew my name was not spelled Doreen, but could not remember the actual way it was spelled.
Again pictures were taken, and Bounce of course had to be in them. And again I slipped into Dutch, just briefly, but still
(I still blame it on jet-lag, if I slept more than 3 hrs per night I was there, it was a lot).
In the mean time, Teresa had asked Stephen if it would
be possible to have our picture taken with Stefanie together. Yes, not a problem, but we would have to wait until
everybody had left. So, we stayed there a long time, talking to Stephen (him and myself got along great), listening to Stefanie
giving advise on Pilates to other people, and watching her giving "lessons" to some of them as well.
Stephen had to take Bounce for a walk, and asked if I
would sit at his table, where they were selling On the same Page, and watch the cashbox. Of course I was happy to oblige (Stefanie
sitting just a few feet away from me). Then Stephen came back and had to go to the restroom himself, and asked if I now would
watch Bounce! And again, not a problem (I would have done cartwheels if they had asked me, LOL). After that we had our picture
taken with Stefanie, she asked me when I was flying back (that was the next day), and wished me a safe trip home.
Needless to say, once home, I was walking around
with a big grin on my face, and I will tressure this memory for ever!
In 1979, I was ten years old, and totally crazy about a new TV show called HART TO HART. It suddenly became the centre of
my life. I lived only for Sunday nights when Jonathan and Jennifer Hart would take my hand and lead me through an hour of
adventure and romance. The real world was so dull by comparison.
As my collection of magazine cuttings grew, I became
curious about the lives of the actors who portrayed the glamourous Harts. I learned about Stefanie's passion for travel, love
of animals, and talent for language. I plastered pictures of RJ (Robert Wagner) all over my bedroom wall. Due to the success
of the show, there was no shortage of information about their interests and activities.
In 1990, I discovered that
Stefanie and RJ were to appear in a new play called LOVE LETTERS in the West End of London. Suddenly, I was making plans for
a weekend trip and it wasn't too long before I found myself in Wyndam's Theatre waiting for the curtain to go up.
It
was an evening I shall never forget! I decided to return in two weeks for the final performance on October 20. However, I
was unable to wait for the last show ... I returned to London the following week!
There I was, waiting outside the
theatre entrance after the show in a HART TO HART t-shirt, with a flower clutched in my hand. Stefanie was barely through
the doorway before she saw me.
Before I could say anything, I was given an enormous bear hug. The affectionate greeting
was totally unexpected but extremely welcome. I was surprised by her openness, but she is naturally vivacious. Her warmth
and energy affect all those around her. To my delight, she invited me to visit backstage the following weekend when I would
return to London for the performance.
A week later I was nervously waiting at the stage door after the show. For
an awful moment, I wondered if I had been mistaken about the invitation. It was hard to believe that such a long-standing
childhood wish was about to be granted.
As I stood backstage waiting for Stefanie to finish a phone call, I felt
a "presence" behind me ... I turned around and there stood Robert Wagner. He smilled and invited me into his dressing
room to wait for Stefanie. When Stefanie joined us, I took a few precious photographs and we chatted for a bit. It was great!
I was so happy to finally meet them! And, I was touched by their kindness in allowing me a visit with them between shows.
Hopefully in our lifetime we all get to experience a few special things that
make us smile each time we pull up that memory. Well, it happened to me on November 2nd this year when my husband and I went
to Louisville, KY to see Stefanie in The King and I.
I have been a fan of Stefanie’s since 1962 when I saw her in The Interns, the year before my husband and I married.
Yes, we are the same age as Stefanie and I have followed her career off and on throughout the years and have admired her work
with the WHWF and so many other causes.
I never dreamed that I would be able to meet her, so when The King and I was scheduled to play in Louisville, I ordered
tickets right away and Nancy made it possible for us to go backstage to meet Stefanie. The show was great. Stefanie certainly
didn’t disappoint. She is a very talented gal in every way: singing, dancing and so funny. We loved it and had great
seats to boot.
After the show, we made our way backstage. Down the hall behind us came Nancy and Betty L with Stephen, Stefanie’s
assistant. That was a pleasant surprise. In the waiting area outside of Stefanie’s dressing room, we got acquainted
with everyone. Stephen showed me the big hoop skirt that Stefanie wears in the show and said it weighted 34 lbs and had me
try to lift it, which I could not. I don’t know how she did it every night. If I had taken a twirl in that, I would
still be going. I heard a “HI” and turned around and there was Stefanie. She looked great and was so pleasant
to talk to. She made us feel very comfortable. We took several pictures, one of me with Stefanie and then Stephen took one
of my husband, Pat, and me with Stefanie. I had my book, Powers Pilates, the program & poster, all of which she signed.
We were so grateful for the time she gave us, so late in the evening and on her birthday. We were ready to go when she asked
if we would like to go with her and Stephen, Nancy and Betty to get a bite to eat and drink at "The Lucky Strike." Well, of
course we said yes!!!! She and Stephen told my husband how to get to get there.
As Stephen walked us to the door he whispered that the cast would be there and it would be a surprise party for Stefanie
because it was her birthday, so this was really going to be special. Well, we got lost, so we were a little late and missed
the surprise.
The Lucky Strike is a sports bar with a whole line of bowling alleys with big screen TVs at the end. They had shoes and
a bowling ball ready for Stefanie. She said she hadn’t bowled in years and was having a ball. Stephen must have told
her that it was also my husbands 63rd birthday, because she ran up and gave him a big birthday hug. Boy, did he love that!
By now it was 1:30 in the morning and time for us to take our leave. I thanked Stefanie for letting us be apart of her birthday
celebration. She was so gracious and gave me a hug and off we go.
So I thank you Nancy and I thank Stefanie and Stephen for giving us this wonderful memory.
Well, where do I start? I had a wonderful time today, (Sunday, February 17), with Stefanie and all of the other ladies
from the Hart to Hart group and the Stefanie group.
First of all I came early. Me and Nancy and Michelle and Regina
were standing in the lobby and Stefanie was outside the theater signing autographs to people who approached her on the street.
She came in and saw Nancy, Michelle, Regina and me. She gave a hug to Nancy then Michelle, Regina and me. I felt like I knew
her all my life. She took me around and gave me the tightest hug and we hugged each other and she kissed me and I kissed her.
Then she told us to stay in our seats after the performance. Nancy gave us all nametags. Then the rest of the ladies arrived:
Claudia, Betty, Vicki, Tracy, Helen, Chris, Teresa, Wendy, Paula, Caryn, Marie-lyne, Leslie, Janet, Laura, Gail, Kathleen,
Denise, and Judith.
When I walked in the theater I sat in back of Vicki from the Stefanie Group. We had a fun talk.
Then, all others piled in the theater. People in back of me were talking about how Stefanie was on h2h with Robert Wagner.
So I just listened and kept quiet. Then the show began and Stefanie was just great. Two other women co-starred: Barbara Barrie
and Lillias White. At the end of the show Lillias said, "Oh Stefanie, I see you have your girls here this weekend." At the
end of the show Stefanie signed autographs to each and every one of us. I gave her a photo of her and RJ in H2H to autograph.
I gave the other girls my camera and they took a photo of me with Stefanie. She was so nice and hugged me again. I brought
the photo of me with RJ, Jill, and Elisabeth in Atlantic City. She looked at it and said, "Wow! Where and when was this taken?"
I told her in Atlantic City last year in Love Letters. She said only one thing about one person in the picture, me. She said,
"Wow you have lost a lot of weight. You look great!!!!!!!!!" I was on cloud nine when she gave me that compliment. Her compliment
made my evening. She had to go get changed for the next performance and we all went next door to eat and Stefanie bought us
all drinks. Champagne!!! We had a wonderful dinner. Some of the girls went to the next show and some went out partying and
I went home to my boring life in Brooklyn. LOL
Meeting Stefanie. Where should I start? Even two weeks later my primary response is WOW!
Her presence on stage at
the Vagina Monologues in West Palm Beach, FL was incredible. Even working with microphones that didn't work and a lighting
system with a mind of its own, her professionalism shined through. The characters she portrayed grabbed you by the heart and
the funny bone. From the very first line, when that rich vibrant voice filled the theater the experience was a feast of surprise
and delight. Oh my God! I'm in the same room with Stefanie Powers! I knew she was good but this performance surpassed anything
I expected and that was just the beginning!
After the show upstairs was definitely one of those experiences when
you don't know what to say and end up looking stupid. Stefanie went out of her way to make us feel welcome and even though
people were clammoring for her attention from all directions she took the time to talk to each of us and pose for pictures.
I think she seemed impressed and a little bemused that we had all come from so far (NY, MD and IL) just to see her.
What impressed me most about the whole experience was that she took the time to make eye contact and acknowledge us as
individuals and some of us (me!) didn't make that easy, being somewhat dazed and dazzled by the company we were keeping.
She was also more physical than I expected, hugging and touching, patting hands and arms and shoulders.
It took us
half the night to come down from the experience and we still had two more performances to go.
Due to limited parking
at this ratty little theater we got there early and stayed, venturing off on foot between shows for our dinner. We were inhabiting
benches in the hallway when who should wander by but Ms. Stefanie. She stopped and talked to us three times as she went in
and out and thanked us again for the birthday presents we had given her, champagne and donations to the WHWF. As she went
up to her dressing room for the last show she invited us to come up again after the show. We hadn't expected that.
In
the dressing room that night, one tiny room for three women, Stefanie introduced us to her neighbor from London and told us
she was living in his house because she was remodeling hers and went into a little detail about the changes. Again, she treated
us like real people and not just fans or distractions. I don't mean to harp on that but I was really impressed. A nice touch
the theater management did was to put a large picture of the theater up with Now Playing: The Interns and Stefanie Powers
splashed across the marquis.
Once again, it took a good part of the night to settle down. Betty, Michelle and Nancy
had to leave at some unholy predawn hour and I don't think any of us got much sleep since we kept getting the giggles over
lines from the play. Warm Up The Duck Lips!
I drove my car to Florida so I decided to hang around and see if
I could get a decent ticket for one more show. Yes, a fourth one, what can I say, I was in the neighborhood. Boy was Stefanie
surprised to see me there. We chatted for a little bit and she sympathized for the others' early departure time and asked
me about the drive down. Then she went up to the dressing room saying she would see me after the show.
Since it
was her last day in WPB and she seemed swamped after the show I didn't bother her any more but went out to the parking lot
and got ready to hit the road. Just as I was leaving, Stefanie was coming out to her car and yelled "Goodbye Jan!"
across the lot and waved me down the street.
Is this how a "Star" is supposed to act?
The
whole experience has left me in awe of the woman and catapulted me into a new level of fandom.. I've seen the movies and
tv shows and read the interviews. I knew she was talented, beautiful and intelligent. What I didn't know about was the vibrancy
of her stage presence. It simply surpasses most of the other things I've seen her do. Who needs Jennifer Hart? Well OK,
I do, but this show really emphasized the depth of her talent and her ability to control, capture and hold an audience.
I also did not expect her to be so approachable and genuinely friendly. So I guess they only way I can adequately end this
is the same way I began it. WOW!
I am finally home ... the first one to arrive in NYC and the last one to reach home ... and this weekend is the greatest
:)
Almost 24 hours flying and with the time difference, I am exhausted for the first 2 days, I only remember I am forever
hungry and sleepy, lol. Luckily I am almost back to normal on Feb 17. Needless to say I am grinning all over when Stefanie
said "who is from Singapore" and everyone shouted "Janet" ... but I am so nervous then and I don't remember what Stefanie
said to me ... I know she said a whole bunch of things including some Cantonese, I think ... so if someone remember what she
said, please le me know ... LOL.
Meeting Stefanie is great but I felt that being able to meet up with the group is
SUPER ! Nancy, thanks for making this weekend a success and my dream to meet Stefanie comes true, without you, the gathering
will be chaotic!
I have been a fan of Stefanie Powers since I
was 8. I survived my childhood by pretending I was Jonathan and Jennifer Hart's only daughter. I admired her so
much and loved the work she was doing in Kenya. I wanted to be a vet at that time and hoped one day I would meet her. I had
just about given up on that dream when I found out she and Robert Wagner were performing Love Letters together in Nashville,
TN. My mom, knowing what a devoted fan I was got tickets for my 19th birthday. I had been keeping a scrapbook of Ms. Powers
for years -if it was in the paper or magazines I had a copy of it. My mom encouraged me to bring my book, just in case I saw
them (little did I know she had managed to get us backstage to meet them both). I was so nervous I could barely speak
and then I saw her and I started to cry. The moment I had been waiting all my life for was happening. She was so sweet and
seemed very excited to see my book. She quieted the crowd and eagerly looked at every page, stopping to make comments and
then asked Robert Wagner to come over and look, too. I was in shock and could barely speak. Then she came to the paper that I
wrote about her when I was in the 7th grade. She read it and decided this was the page she wanted to autograph. She also wrote
Kathy Bartels' name and address down and told me to contact her for Fan Club information. She told Kathy I would be writing
and to send me an autographed picture. About a month after our meeting I got the picture and a note in the mail. It was
such a great moment in my life. I have since joined Nancy's group and have had the oppurtunity to meet Ms. Powers again. She
was as gracious as she was 18 years ago. I will never tire of being her fan or of seeing her in person.
The famed lights of
Broadway dimmed slightly on the windy Sunday and slowly gave way to a more impressive light. A little brick building with
a modest theatre inside housed three amazingly talented women.
As they walked on the dark stage and took their places
in their chairs, one familiar voice said, Ill bet youre worried She was right I was, not about her or the show but about the
three elderly women who were sitting behind me talking for nearly twenty minutes about sweet, innocent Jennifer Hart. They
noticed the Stefanie group tag hanging around my neck and asked if I was there to see Jennifer too. I very politely replied
that I was there to see Stefanie and I had a feeling that Jennifer would not be appearing in this performance. One asked if
I knew anything about the show and if I could tell them a little about it. I looked at their faces and the cover of the playbill
while trying to find a tactful way of describing what they were about to hear. Thankfully it was at that moment that the lights
dimmed and Barbara, Stefanie, and Lillis took the stage. The moment the house lights rose I heard one of them whisper, Shes
still just as beautiful. True, she is but the moment the word vagina passed her lips they gasped and by the time she got to
the tampons I think they realized that Jennifer Hart was gone forever.
As for myself, it proved something Ive known
all along: give her a script and watch her fly. From the 72-year-old "Streisand" Flood to the Harry Winston diamonds, Stefanie
once again showed that talent and a wicked sense of humor does wonders for people. This was the first weekend I had taken
just for me with no work involved in I cant remember how long and between the 3:00 and 7:30 performances I laughed more than
I had in three years. I looked back at the ladies who seemed to still be reeling from shock and silently laughed to myself
but I wasnt sure if it was because of the naïve mindset for not having a clue about the content or that Jennifer had just
taken on a whole new dimension in their minds.
At the end of the evening and even as I sit on a plane writing this
Im still laughing with an almost forgotten lightheartedness trying to think of a way to relay The Flood to my now 72-year-old
mother. I'll admit I will never be able to watch another intimate Hart to Hart scene without bursting into laughter the minute
she says Darling. My mind will be repeating the VM remainder of the sentence and refreshing the smile on my face.
It
was a weekend to come together, a time to make new friends, a time to celebrate just being a woman Bravo Stefanie!
When I heard that one of the new HART TO HART (movies) was going to be filmed in Germany I saw a chance to meet my favorite
actress Stefanie Powers -- what an opportunity after being a fan for 12 years. I was very disappointed that neither the press,
the fan club nor the German TV station that co-produced the movies knew where nor when shooting will take place.
But
I was lucky. A week later I received a phone call from a friend who told me the shooting was taking place in Munich. She also
knew in which hotel Stefanie Powers was staying. The next day I left for Munich with another friend -- but unfortunately we
only saw Stefanie Powers through a window. She had a meeting and was not to be disturbed. We decided to come back the next
day.
Early in the morning we stood in front of the hotel. This was the moment: Stefanie Powers came out and walked
to the car which was going to bring her on location. I decided to make a photo. Stefanie Powers put her bag in the car and
asked us if we were fans. We told her we were members of her fan club and the William Holden Wildlife Foundation.
I
took the opportunity to take out a poster I had brought. Stefanie Powers was delighted. She looked at it and said, "It's
beautiful -- and so big!" There she was directly in front of me. I still couldn't believe it. My friend asked for a photo
with her -- Stefanie Powers did not mind at all. She was so nice and friendly that I stopped being nervous. Afterwards she
asked us if we also wanted an autograph. She put my poster on the car and signed it. While she was signing other photos I
photographed her once more. Then Stefanie Powers got in the car and waved good-bye. I'll never forget that day.
I saw the "King and I" in Detroit. The play is a beautiful
show to watch. And, I thought Stefanie was wonderful as I watched her perform! I just couldn't believe I was seeing her in
person. As the show drew to a close, I kept my fingers crossed and did a bit of praying that things would work out so I could
meet her after the show. I asked a theatre usher about the person I was to ask for and he was happy to help find him.
Within a few minutes I was escorted backstage to Stefanie's
dressing room. We walked across the stage and up a flight of stairs. As we walked back, I really only then began to get nervous
about meeting her. I couldn't believe it was actually going to happen after all. He told me I was lucky that particular evening
in that I (and my husband) were the only visitors for Stefanie and that the next evening (Friday night), he and Stefanie were
expecting some 40 people after the show.
He peeked in and asked if she was ready. She came to
the door and greeted me with a smile and shook my hand. I told her my name and that I was from Nancy's Group. She invited
us in and introduced us to her little dog "Bounce" who quickly came over to my feet as I reached down to pet her. Stefanie
asked if we had enjoyed the show while she was trying to get a little doggie sweater on Bounce (only 10 degrees in Detroit
that night). I told her I thought the whole show was just beautiful. She sat down a few feet across from us and we spoke a
few minutes about the show and about our pets. I proceeded to tell her how I had been a fan of hers since I was 5 or
6 yrs. old and how happy I was to finally have the chance to see her perform in person. She gave me a big smile tilted her
head to the side and said "Awwww". With Bounce still snuggled in her lap, she then reached back to a ledge behind her where
she had a small pile of photos for autographing. I handed her a Sharpie I had with me and she asked how I spelled my name
(Kelli) as she started to sign it and also signed my program. She said "see your name is spelled a bit different and that
is why I always ask" As she was signing, I told her I was expecting my first child in June. She congratulated us and said
" Oh my, now your hormones will be going crazy. I've been through many pregnancies with friends of mine."
I asked if we could have a picture taken together and
she graciously agreed. She put her arm around me as my husband took our photo. We all then put our coats on and she said she
would show us back to the exit. She put Bounce in her carrier and lead us back downstairs. She wished us a safe trip home
and a health baby. With the excitment of meeting her I almost forgot that I had brought with me a donation to WHWF for her.
When I hand her the envelope I had labeled "WHWF" she looked down at it and then looked up at me smiled and leaned over to
give me a hug and said thank you. I again thanked her for her time and wished her the best as she continues the tour this
year.
And that was it. My visit may have only lasted a matter
of minutes but, I will treasure those moments forever!! Stefanie was so very sweet and gracious!
Those of you who hope to also get a chance to meet Stefanie
as she tours, don't be too nervous. She is a sweetheart in person just as others who have meet her have remarked.
I was remarkably calm even when Stefanie walked into the room at the National Press Club luncheon on May 21, 2001. She definately
commanded attention but not in a glamourous, shiny, celebrity kind of way. In fact, she was dressed quite plainly in a gray
dress and sweater, she had little make-up, and her hair looked natural. I guess what caught me was how warm and approachable
she seemed.
Her speech was good but I think she impressed every one more during the question and answer time. You
could see her passion for, dedication to and knowledge of conservation in general. Her words were powerful without being preachy.
I can't imagine anyone left without thinking they needed to do more to help the environment and animals.
After
her speech, we watched as people approached her. We knew it wasn't a celebrity event and so we anticipated that we wouldn't
be able to get pictures or autographs like one might after a show. But, when we saw others approach her table we thought we
could at least go say hello. Vicki (Demcheck) was first (she was the bravest... and shook the most afterwards...haha) to approach
her with her gift. Stefanie liked the drawing and commented that it was just how they (the animal) were. Vicki also mentioned
we were with the fan club (which wasn't true in my case but I think the WHWF counts) to which Stefanie seemed surprised. She
asked how we heard about the event and we said it was Nancy (Dugan). She laughed at that and made a comment about what would
she do without Nancy. It was actually Stefanie's idea to take pictures. She left her place at the table and ushered us to
the side and took pictures with each one of us seperately.
When it was my turn, I wanted to say something very
cool and memorable but despite my efforts, I'm sure I was just a goofy fan. Still she was kind and showed interest in what
I had to say. She seemed pleased that fans would come and support her and made the comment that we needed "stick together
as a team." Cool, I'm a member of Stef's team...hahaha.
We waited around just to be there and when we left
we met up with a member of the Press Club who really didn't know much about Stefanie but was impressed by her overall and
particularly her native sounding use of French. She assumed Stefanie lived in L.A. but we corrected her indicating she had
three "homes". She seemed impressed that Stefanie lived sometimes in Kenya. What struck me as funny is that this
woman was surprised Stefanie wasn't married or didn't have a man in her life (that we knew of). She couldn't believe such
a passionate, dynamic, smart, beautiful lady would be without a man. I mentioned that there really hasn't been any one, except
maybe for Bill, that could keep up with her.
It was definately a great experience. Although I'd like to see her
performing sometime, I'm glad to have seen her in her role of activist. She has definitely motivated me to do more in the
cause of the environment. The only problem now is, I would enjoy so much being able to spend time just talking to her ...
like I'd be of interest to her (lol)... because she just seems so fascinating and nice.
I had a great time at FanSource. It was very nice
meeting all the celebrities that were there but, of course, the main event was meeting Stefanie and she did not disappoint.
She was extremely personable and friendly, looked great after just coming from a memorial service for John Schlesinger.
The private reception was a lot of fun as
we surprised Stefanie by yelling Happy Birthday to her as she came in. She, immediately, asked if there was cake (there
was). The cake was cut and she opened her presents and seemed to really like all that she was given. Her Mother
and Aunt were there in their wheelchairs and she was very sweet to them - when Stefanie suggested it was time for her Mother
and Aunt to leave, her Mother said she didn't want to leave so, finally, Stefanie said she was leaving and, at that, the party
broke up.
I went with my mom and dad to see the King and I in Wilmington, Delaware in March
2005.My mom, Georgette, is a member of Nancy’s group and I have donated
some money before to the WHWF for Stefanie’s birthday.I love her wildlife
causes and I watch H2H tapes and some of Stefanie’s movies with my mom and really enjoy Stefanie’s acting.
I was really excited to go to the theater and see Stefanie perform.I enjoyed
the show so much; I am now an even bigger fan of Stefanie’s.
After the show we were lucky enough to go backstage and meet with Stefanie. There was only one other person there, so she
was able to spend some time with us. My mom introduced my dad and myself to Stefanie and she was so nice and really interested
in getting our names correct. She signed my program and talked to us a little bit. Then I gave her a donation that I had saved
from my lunch money for the WHWF. She looked at the check my parents had written out for me and asked me how I got the money.
When I told her how I had saved it she said, "Oh sweetheart, this is so wonderful," and she gave me a huge hug. She was so
terrific. Then my mom gave her a donation from her and my dad and she gave my mom and dad a hug too. My mom and I had to laugh
because my dad who is pretty quiet gave her a kiss on the cheek. When we teased him later he told us she was even more beautiful
in person and he wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to kiss her because she was so "hot". Luckily he gave her a nice
little kiss and wasn’t obnoxious about it or I would have died.
After we gave her the donations, Stefanie grabbed my hand and said to come on stage and see what it was like. We all followed
her and she took us up on the stage and we talked about the size of different theaters and how she likes different size theaters
for different types of plays. She asked me what I thought of being on a stage and I said it was a little scary to face all
those people and she said she never made eye contact with people because it would distract her from what she was doing on
stage, although she did usually have a pretty good idea of how many people were in the audience.
After talking to us a little longer we left and she gave us really nice goodbyes. I am not sure what I expected before
I met her, but I can’t believe how nice and sweet she is in person. I will never forget my first meeting with a movie
star. When my mom said to me I would be surprised how genuinely nice Stefanie was I am not sure I knew what she met, but now
I will always remember how special she made me feel.
My mom and I had a fabulous time at the FanSource weekend. My Dream finally came true. Being able to meet Stefanie after
being a fan for 20 years was the most exciting time in my life. It was like talking with my best friend. I especially enjoyed
the private reception and being able to celebrate her birthday. The one thing that topped off the trip was taking home her
HART TO HART jacket that I bid for in the auction. I also took home a signed MIstral's Daughter record album that I also
bid on and won. I will always treasure Stefanie's jacket. I will always think of her when I wear it. My mom's first meeting
with Stefanie was also wonderful. My mom said it was like being with family. She thought Stefanie was great.
What a Lady!!! "C'est une grande Dame." I found myself very lucky to see her perfoming in a show in New York.
I always want to go to NYC to see her perfoming on stage in the flesh, but approach her what a big deal! Thank who? Nancy
for sure but Paula too! Paula took my hand and didn't let me go! Merci beaucoup Paula! Nancy introduce me if I remember
correctly. Stefanie take my hands, give me a hug, naturally speak in French! Ms Powers ask me where I come from in France?
How long I've been in New York? I told her for two days just to see her. She yelled to her aunt that I'm from France! She's
really spontaneous and funny! AND hug me again! And we talk about attending Edinburg for the King and I...Actually the first
feeling without the fact she's gorgeous who cross my mind was RESPECT! She is the LADY! Funny, devoted, natural and, and,
and lot of kindly things. She is the "référence". The show was extraordinary to be honest the three of them
were GREAT (Barbara Barrie, Lillis White, Stefanie Powers). The combination of the three of them and the way they act "terrific;"
Three really passionate women!!! I think I'm not already back from that trip!
I finally had my chance to meet Stefanie on May 21, 2001. Stefanie was in Washington, DC, at a National Press Club Luncheon.
She was the Guest Speaker for The Bushmeat Crisis Task Force. I attended the event with BettyL, Leslie, and Vicki. We heard
about the luncheon from an email that Nancy Dugan had sent to the Stefanie Powers Group. Within minutes of getting that email,
I knew I had to go . . . and within a couple of hours Leslie buzzed me to ask if I was going. At that moment, I knew without
a doubt I was going, because Leslie and I had never met Stefanie before and we somehow felt that when we did, it would be
at the same time
I drove down to Greenbelt, Maryland from Rochester, NY, the Saturday before. I met Betty and we
went into DC for the day on Sunday. We made it an early night so that we wouldn't be tired on Monday morning. How we ever
got to sleep Sunday night I will never know. We both were so nervous at the thought of the next day. Well Monday came around
and of course we woke up to rain! Oh great . . . there goes the hair. LOL! We took the train into DC and met both Vic and
Leslie and the National Press Club. That place felt so official my temperature rose about 100 degrees!
After a
quick stop in the ladies room, we made our way to the Ballroom. We quickly found a suitable table that wasn't reserved and
called it home. We were perfectly positioned to see the Head Table in ahead of us, and the small cocktail area was to the
left of us. As we were sitting through the reception, somebody at the table said, "There she is." I looked up, not
knowing where exactly I was supposed to be looking, and then **WHAM!** there was Stefanie Powers. In person and only 10 feet
away from me! As much as I thought I could handle it, nothing could have prepared me for that initial feeling that comes with
first seeing the woman I have admired almost my whole life.
Stefanie was beautiful and yet she wasn't Hollywood.
She wore a simple knit dress with a matching sweater, and her hair and makeup were perfectly natural. She infected people
with her million-dollar smile. She smiled and you smiled . . . it was just that simple. Stefanie didn't play favorites during
the reception. She spoke with many different people, all with the same enthusiasm. The odd nicety was that people weren't
swarming to be near her. Stefanie was truly seen as a woman working for conservation, not a celebrity.
We ate lunch
and then listened to her speech. When she walked to the podium, she had to pull out her glasses to read her notes. Somewhat
hesitant to put them on, she joked "Yes, I know. The image is shattered." The audience laughed with her. She spoke
about the reckless killing of wild animals in Africa, and how things like loggers with modern machines hasten the pace at
which animals are killed. And how even the rapidly increasing spread of AIDS is a cause for natives to kill "NOW"
instead of taking the time to look for alternate sources of food and protein. It was very informative and inspiring. Her summation
was so powerful, that I actually got chills from it. It would have been impossible for somebody to leave there and not question
whether or not they could or should do more. Stefanie is definitely the right person for the cause.
After the question
and answer session, which Stefanie handled even more expertly than her speech, the luncheon was officially over. People were
making there way around the room and up to chat with Stefanie. The next thing I know somebody says, "Come on. We're going".
. . "Going WHERE???" Yes, brave Vic had made her way to the head table. We patiently waited for the others to clear
out, and our fearless leader took over. Vic presented Stefanie with a hand drawn watercolor and made mention that we were
all in her fan club. I was afraid that she would not like it too much to have 'fans' at a DC luncheon, but Stefanie was thrilled
to have us there. She asked how we came to find her there. Our reply... "Nancy told us." It was then that Stefanie
clenched her fists, triumphantly raised her arms and said "Ah Nancy. Thank God For Nancy." Stefanie then suggested
that we have pictures taken. How cool was that? We really weren't expecting any since it wasn't a 'fan' gathering, but Stefanie
had other thoughts! She walked away from the people that were behind the head table with her and met us for photos. I was
first up. I put my hand out and introduced myself. Stefanie probably didn't hear me because at that moment I was afraid of
my own voice! While I was standing there, dying inside, a camera man came over and gave her the tape from the luncheon. She
said "Oh. I don't know if I should watch this. " I said, "Yes you should. Trust me it was great." She
said "You think so?" and I happily replied "Believe me. You were fine." We lined up for our picture, and
my once-in-a- lifetime moment came to an end. It was undoubtedly the most memorable, and unforgettable moment in my life.
I am glad to have shared it with the friends that I have made through a shared interest and admiration for the world's loveliest
person.
Stefanie was everything that I had dared to hope and dream she would be. She is funny, warm, intelligent,
interesting and extremely talented. What I wouldn't have given to have had her as a mentor and figure in my life. She has
so much to give and teach...and does it all so unconditionally. The world truly is a better place for having her in it!
I'd been a fan and avid collector of Stefanie Powers memorabilia for nearly three decades before my first "face-to-face"
with her. Although I'd been an audience member on various talk shows on which she appeared, and had intermittent correspondence
with her for many years, my chance to actually talk to her "in person" didn't happen until 1991 when she and HART
TO HART co-star Robert Wagner were touring in LOVE LETTERS.
I read about their appearance in one of the trade papers
the Wednesday before the show would move on from Philadelphia. From the schedule, it was clear that Philadelphia would be
my best shot at seeing the show. I knew it would be tough to get tickets but I had to try! I called the box office only to
be told, "Sorry. Sold out!" After a few seconds of disappointment, I went into action. Since I'd been working in
theatre for many years, I had a few "connections." And, I used them! I "pulled every string" and called
in favors and managed to get absolutely fabulous seats for the Saturday matinee.
After a few very long days, my
friend and I were on the train, heading for Philadelphia. Arriving at the theatre about 45 minutes before show time, we posted
ourselves at the stage door to await the arrival of Stefanie and RJ. When the limo came to a stop at the stage door, we approached
tentatively with photos and pen in hand. They seemed happy to sign the photos ... both were gracious, gorgeous, and extremely
friendly. Though I'd been rendered speechless by their presence, my friend chatted away with them before they went through
the stage door.
Since that momentous occasion, I've had many opportunities to be in the company of Stefanie in
social settings as well as private ones. And, yes, I maintain a normal, congenial and literate conversation with her without
difficulty! It was only the FIRST meeting where I was dumbstruck!! She's a wonderful lady ... funny, smart, clever, interesting.
It's nice to be in the company of someone you've admired for so many years and to realize that she is, indeed, all you dared
hope she would be.
Fansource 2006: This was my first attendance of Fansource . It was great to meet
the other members of the On-line Group and put faces with the names after five years of participating in this terrific group.
Can’t believe it’s been this long! Also, it was great to meet Stefanie again. I had the good fortune of meeting
her for the first time last year following the performance of the K&I in LA. She appeared very relaxed when she met with
the various fans at Fansource, along with her adorable canine companion, Bounce. A private reception followed for Stefanie
and she shared her impressions about recent developments at the Mt Kenya Reserve and how our monetary donations are being
used for specific project needs. She expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the On-line Group’s efforts of support
throughout the recent years. Stefanie truly appeared touched about this year’s contribution in honor of her birthday.
Time was at a premium for her at the reception. She had another commitment to attend to and therefore was unable to open the
gifts from various members of the Group. Stefanie promised to return the next day to spend more quality time with us and to
open the gifts.
Late in the afternoon of the next day, Stefanie returned to the Beverly Garland Hotel conference center where we all met.
While she was opening her gifts, she delighted all of us with recalling humorous adventures that she experienced at various
points in her career and her life. Since I now live in Las Vegas, she recalled an unexpected salacious encounter many years
ago involving people connected to the movie that she was starring in at the time. It was very amusing to hear her take on
the events.
Following the opening of gifts, she extended a gracious invitation to join her at the hotel lounge for cocktails and more
chat. It was totally unexpected and very nice. This provided a chance to talk with her, since she sat directly across from
me. I was interested to learn more about some of the challenges that she is presently facing with managing the foundation.
Since Stefanie sits on the board of directors for two mutual funds that invests the WHWF endowment, she opined about the increased
regulatory scrutiny from the SEC that seems to entail more of her time and attention. This is all a by-product of the recent
Sarbanes Oxley legislation. She had to prepare that evening for a phone conference call with fund analysts/related interests
for early the next morning and was unable to join us for the Hollywood Museum tour that evening. We bid our farewells after
a very engaging time with her.
It is difficult to put into words how it felt to meet Stefanie Powers for the first time. I think you would have to
know me to understand just how much it really meant. There are only a few “celebrities”
I have ever wanted to meet and Stefanie is one of them. Sometimes when I think back to February 09, 2005, it still seems like
it was a dream…
I would attend the first of two performances of “The King and I” in Baltimore, MD. Our seats were just a few
feet from the stage, and when Stefanie appeared for the first time I found myself beaming. I
had never seen her perform “live” and here I was watching my childhood idol in one of my favorite musicals. It
was so worth the wait!
After the show, Nancy Dugan had arranged for members of the online group to have dinner with Stefanie and the entire cast.It was Chinese New Year so we met her at a local Chinese restaurant. Stefanie was
so gracious and friendly, acknowledging everyone at the two tables occupied by group members. She signed autographs and stood
with a number of us for photos. She had to be tired but she never let on. I found myself just watching and listening to her.
She was so at ease with everyone.
While I would have loved to have met Stefanie long ago, I think I appreciate our meeting more now.As a youngster I would have seen her primarily as my favorite actress. As an adult I have a greater appreciation for her intelligence, her many
talents, her activism, and her athleticism. She’s an amazing woman and
leads by example. The world could use a lot more people like her. . .
Two days before my friends and I were due to go to London to see MATADOR, my husband presented me with a letter from Stefanie's
UK secretary. Unbeknownst to me. Alan had written to Stefanie explaining the friendship that had occurred between Lis, Hayley
and I had begun because of our shared admiration for her and of our planned trip to London. He'd asked if we could meet her.
The reply: "Stefanie would be delighted to meet after the show."
The evening of the show arrived and
we were all excited and very nervous. Knowing that Stefanie wasn't in the first half of the show, we weren't sure how much
we'd enjoy it; if it would seem slow because we were waiting to see her. However, I became totally absorbed in the story and
the music.
The three of us looked at each other and grinned as the second half began. We gave Stefanie a great
reception when she made her entrance and I knew from the audience reaction that we weren't the only Stefanie Powers fans there!
The show was electric. Stefanie's singing was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was all over too quickly.
As the cast took their bows, Lis, Hayley and I looked at each other again and I knew we were all feeling the same way -- elated
after the performance and apprehensive at the thought of our trip backstage. As we waited to see Stefanie, we met two girls
who had met her before during LOVE LETTERS.
Stefanie invited all of us into her dressing room and made us
very welcome. She was lovely, very warm, and interested in what we'd thought of the show and her performance. She happily
posed for photographs and signed our programmes and photographs.
Stefanie's mother came in whilst we were there
and we chatted with her, too. She was interested in where we all had come from and was amused to hear how Lis and I had met
and become friends through a mutual interest in her daughter's career. We had a wonderful time and left "on a high"
after about half an hour with them. We spent another couple hours with the two girls we'd met at the stage door.
I
made another two trips from Edinburgh to London to see MATADOR, and was lucky enough to have time with Stefanie on both occasions.
She was great! My mum and I spent almost forty minutes with her during both trips. I am very impressed by Stefanie's dedication
to her fans. She's a beautiful person and she understands how much it means to her fans that she take time to chat with us.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Stefanie in Edinburgh. I still can`t believe it really
happened! Stefanie is more than words can say. Her generosity and the way she treats her fans has touched me deeply. She spreads
so much joy! She sure is a Queen!
My admiration of Stefanie Powers began on my 18th birthday (August 25, 1979)
when HART TO HART came to dominate my Sunday evenings. In college, my studying took a back seat when it came time for
this exciting show to air. I planned my schedule around HART TO HART like other college students planned their schedule
around their favorite soap opera. I wanted to be Jennifer Hart (Stefanie Powers) because she was everything I wanted to be:
strong, compassionate, loving, cared about others, and above all else married to Jonathan Hart (Robert Wagner). Since the
shows debut and through its finale I was and still am a Stefanie Powers fan.
My ultimate dream was to someday meet Stefanie. I did not think it would take over 20
years to do so, but on a Sunday afternoon in New York City my dream finally came true. At 3:00 pm on February 17, 2002, three
lovely ladies came on stage, but my eyes were focused on one in particular, Stefanie Powers. There she was seated in
the middle of the other two, and from the moment the play began Stefanie and the other two ladies entertained me for the next
90 minutes. After the play was over, we in the Fan Group, waited for Stefanie to exit her dressing room. Suddenly, Stefanie
appeared, quite excited by the fact that we were there to meet her. Words won't do justice in describing my initial reaction
upon seeing her in person after dreaming of this magical day for so long. For now we will say that I was speechless. After
she introduced us to her aunt, cousin, and her beau, Tom (who by the way is not only good looking but also a very nice man
whom I enjoyed talking with. Way to go Stefanie!), she then took the time to speak to each of us personally, having her picture
taken with us, and autographing pictures/posters that we had brought. I had read about other fans encounters with Stefanie
and how gracious she was with them. Well, she did not let me down. In fact, she went over and beyond in meeting my expectations.
I loved her enthusiasm about the gifts we gave her, the way she kept showing them to Tom and telling him where we were from,
and most all, the way she kept her beautiful smile amidst all the cameras. She truly is a gem.
As I am writing my Stefanie story, I am reliving the whole weekend of firsts: my first trip to New
York, my first taxi ride, my first meeting with these lovely ladies that belong to the best fan group in the world, (thanks,
Nancy for the invite), my first taste of a New York pretzel, but most of all, my first and I hope not my last meeting with
the loveliest and most genuine person in the world, Stefanie Powers. Someone asked me who I would like to meet next,
now that I have met Stefanie after all these years, and without a doubt I would have to say Stefanie Powers once again!
The first time I met Stefanie, she was at McAlpin's in Cincinnati, Ohio, promoting the animal collection for the William Holden
Wildlife Foundation. By that time, I'd seen LOVE LETTERS twice (in Louisville, KY and in Cincinnati, OH). Both times, I'd
sent flowers backstage. At the promotional event, I handed Stefanie a letter I had written. When she realized I'd been the
person who'd sent flowers, she gave me a big hug and asked why I hadn't come backstage. I told her I didn't know I was allowed
to come backstage.
Later that afternoon after talking to Stefanie, I went to get tickets for the Saturday evening
show and for both shows on Sunday.
After the Sunday matinee, I went backstage to talk to them. I had so many questions
to ask them but forgot most of them. After the Sunday evening performance, I thought I would leave them alone and just say
good-bye at the car. I was standing close to the stage door when it opened and the Production Stage Manager of LOVE LETTERS
came out. He told me that Stefanie and Robert wanted to see me. I almost fainted. I went in and Stefanie gave me a big basket
of flowers. She asked Robert if he had anything for me and he, too, gave me a big basket of flowers. Stefanie said that they
were not able to take the flowers with them and wanted me to have them. I told Stefanie I was supposed to give them presents,
not the other way around.
Before Stefanie and Robert left Cincinnati, I asked the Company Manager where the play
was going next. He wrote down the theaters and addresses. The last theater he wrote down was in Chicago ... I knew as soon
as I saw that I would be going on a road trip to Chicago!
Well, I had finally done it - I had bought a ticket to see Stefanie in The Adjustment at Peterborough, it didn't matter that
I was travelling over 400 miles and on my own, I just knew that I had to see her perform on the stage. I arrived in Peterborough
early, so I walked to the theatre and left Stefanie a present (a small, very ugly ornamental cat made in my home town and
some Scottish whiskey fudge) along with a note explaining about the cat and that I had travelled down from Scotland to see
the play
Well, I went to the show; words can't really describe how it felt to be watching her perform. Her stage
presence was electrifying and I was just so in awe. I had a seat in the middle of the front row. There wasn't a stage; it
was more of a platform about 3 feet off the ground so I was REALLY close.
The play was excellent; I laughed,;I
cried. When she spoke to the audience you thought she was speaking to you alone. The first time she uttered the f*** word
the audience gasped, I had been expecting it so I laughed. At the interval I decided to stay in my seat and I got talking
to a couple of guys who had also travelled quite a distance to see Stefanie in the show. A man behind me made a comment about
Stefanie's looks and her figure to his wife. Hhe said she looked about 40. One of the guys beside me told him her real age
and he was "gobsmacked."
I had taken a couple of photographs with me, hoping to get them signed. I asked
the theatre manager but he said no. He took them and my address and said he would ask Stefanie to sign them for me. I think
he must have felt sorry for me, travelling all that distance, as he told me to wait as he thought Stefanie would be coming
out soon. I waited alongside the two guys I had been speaking to and another couple. Tony Anholt came out first, then Michael
Brandon - he spoke with us for quite a while, but I kept one eye on the door as I was more interested in seeing Stefanie.
We waited about 15 minutes and then Stefanie appeared!
She came right over to us, I asked for her autograph and
she commented on my Scottish accent. I told her where I lived and she asked if I had sent her a note that afternoon. I told
her that I had and she told me that she loved the ornamental cat I had given her. She gave me a hug and a kiss - I was stunned.
I mentioned Nancy's name to her and she said something like "you know Nancy - that's great." She asked if I'd like
a photograph of us together. Hell yes I thought! She put her arm around me and one of the guys took our photo. By this time
I don't think I was very coherent as my brain was a bit frazzled. She spoke to the others who waited and posed for more photographs
before she left. I was offered a lift back to my hotel by one of the guys so we went to the car park. Strangely and very coincidently,
Stefanie was parked right next to them. She rolled down her window and said. "Thanks for coming to see the show."
I told her that I hoped to see it again when it hit the West End. She smiled, waved and then drove off. It was so wonderful
to know that someone who I have been a fan of and admired for so long was so much lovelier in person than I could ever have
imagined.
I arrived in Washington, DC, for the BushMeat Conference and met Stefanie fans I had originally met through the online Stefanie
Powers group: BettyL, JanineL (Betty's daughter), MichelleY, and LeslieT who was the last to arrive due to parking problems.
There was a VIP gathering before the luncheon and conference. Stefanie came in, accompanied by Jack Hannah. Stefanie
was wearing a sweater and skirt, green/gray in color. She looked really great. It was at this time Michelle announced her
legs were stuck to the chair and she could not and would not be getting up. None of us did.
After lunch, the conference
began. Stefanie's speech was great and it ended with follow-up internet questions. One of which turned out to be from Anto,
a member of our Stefanie Powers online group.
Aftewards we approached Stefanie. I had done a pastel of a chimp/monkey
to give to her. I told her we were fan club members. She was thrilled. She asked how we came to be in Washington, DC. Someone
mentioned "Nancy." Stefanie said "Thank God for Nancy." Than she told everyone to move, she was taking
pictures with us. . . A perfect end to a perfect day.
One of my most memorable vacations was a weekend I spent in early November at Baltimores Inner Harbor. Stefanie Powers, my
favorite actress, was appearing in the musical APPLAUSE which is based on the 1930s movie, ALL ABOUT EVE. Through an arrangement
with her fan club, I was invited backstage after the performance, thus allowing me to fulfill my dream of meeting Stefanie
Powers. I purchased the tickets in advance that spring and so began anxiousness as November crept up closer and closer.
At last that Sunday afternoon arrived. I carefully picked up the cross stitch and my camera and headed with the
rest of the family to the elevator leading to the theatres entrance. We took our tickets out and proceeded up the red carpeted
stairs to the lobby where our tickets were collected and we were ushered to our seats.
Suddenly the orchestra began
the prelude supplying the audience bits and pieces of the coming songs. The music continued to swell until the curtains were
drawn back to reveal the stage and began the first act. When Stefanie first set foot on stage I absolutely could not believe
I was actually sitting there. For the next three hours I was amazed at Stefanies acting, singing, and dancing ability.
As soon as the show drew to a close and the cast came out for one more bow, we gathered our coats and began to make our
way to the backstage door. I eagerly opened the door and ascended a flight of stairs leading to a small reception area.
I must have waited half an hour, but was lucky enough to watch the entire cast leave for the day. All the while I kept looking
down the hall for Stefanie to emerge until finally I saw her walking towards me. She made her way behind the desk and said
hello to everyone with that famous million dollar smile on her face. I greeted her as well then presented her with the gift
I had brought for her. She absolutely loved it and motioned for me to come around the desk and give her a hug. I felt so
fortunate to actually be standing beside someone I have always admired. Meanwhile, my step-father was snapping pictures left
and right. Stefanie and I chatted a minute or two more then I said goodbye and descended the stairs I had so eagerly climbed
just moments before.
I was so full of emotion as we made our way to the car. I was sad to have to leave but happy
for the memories I would have forever.
